Development of lung in tiny human
Fetus?
When the baby is in the mother's womb (uterus; where the baby develops) it's called a "fetus"
Prenatal period?
The period before the birth of the fetus is called the "Prenatal period"
Perinatal period?
During and immediately after childbirth is called the Perinatal period.
Gestation?
Gestation( 1 gestation = 1 week) is the period between conception and birth.
when a Fetus grows and develops inside the mother's womb.
Full-term birth?
Ideally, the fetus has to grow in the uterus for at least 37 weeks of gestation or around 40 weeks of gestation (280 days).
How does a fetal (baby) organ develop?
A baby goes through several stages of development, beginning as a fertilized egg (conception).
What are the stages of fetal development?
The process divides into five stages:
- From conception to 8 weeks - Embryonic stage.
- From 9 weeks to birth - Pseudoglandular, Canalicular, Saccular, and Alveolar stage
Where does the lung develop?
Lungs are derived from ectoderm, while mesoderm is the origin of pulmonary blood vessels, smooth muscle, cartilage, and other connective tissue.
Around which week does the lung starts to develop?
The lung develops at about 4-6 weeks gestation as a ventral outpouching of the primitive foregut into the surrounding ventral mesenchyme.
This structure is called the laryngotracheal groove and is the forerunner of the larynx and trachea.
When does the lung complete its development?
The first organ to complete its development is the “Heart” around 5 weeks of conception and the last one to complete its development is the “Lungs”; the rate of lung development can vary extensively and but around 37 weeks it is fully developed and keeps growing till 8 years of age.
Why does the baby need to cry at birth?
Lungs are fluid-filled organs (inactive organs) in the uterus and oxygen is supplied through the umbilical cord (the connection between mother and fetus) only. during birth, the umbilical cord is cut.
that's why we need the baby to cry.
